CAR 222 WINS TOP HONOURS YET AGAIN!

At the 2009 Variety Gold Door Panel night, held at the Tivoli Hotel,
everyone waited in great anticipation as the countdown of
fundraising began.

With the last 2 gold door panels still to be announced, the MC
indicated that only $20 separated the next panel. So it was with
absolute delight and amazement that we realised, when the 2nd
panel was awarded to Car 70 for raising $75,070 ($20 more than
the third car) we were $45,000 ahead to take out top line honours.

It had been a tough year, financially and everyone was amazed at
our continued success. We were the toast of Variety and the CEO
and staff offered their heartfelt thanks.

We take this opportunity to sincerely thank all our supporters, for
without you we could not achieve such success.

Be assured that almost all the money we raise goes directly to
helping children in South Australia.

AT THE START LINE

It was with great excitement that the team sat on the grid in poll
position. The weather was fine and entertainment added a great
atmosphere to the start line. The Precocious Penguins climbed
the platform to present a wheelchair to a young boy. With his
family present and an emotional acceptance speech by the boy's
father, there were quite a few moist eyes in the audience.

The cars left amid much fanfare, with a long day ahead of them,
travelling all the way to Arkaroola. This being the year of a
National Bash, all states were converging on Alice Springs, so
there was much eager anticipation.

En route they saw magnificent scenery, including Painted Desert,
which name, actually describes what you see. As Penguin Roz
says, "It is like someone has taken the paint brush and daubed
different vibrant outback colours everywhere. It is really amazing
and beautiful.".

With temperatures in the mid 30's in the Centre, some of the cars
struggled in the hot, dry and dusty conditions, and some of the
corrugations in the road shook everyone so much, it's a wonder
their teeth are still in place!

However, the team had a fabulous time, met wonderful people
and experienced the very special Variety comaraderie which takes
place.
